Windows7: Welcome to 1990

Approximately one in twenty times when I try to log on to my work computer (running Windows 7 Professional™), it lags for 2 minutes and then I see this:

Windows 7 crash

That's the Microsoft I know and love. (By "love", I mean the opposite of love.) Just like the good old days. I'm glad my employer bought this computer and I didn't have to spend my own money.

80% of the time on this machine I'm sitting in Virtualbox using Ubuntu, thankfully.

Cateogory: Rants

I hate windows as next as the next guy, and without knowing more about the setup this may just be stupid to say. It does however sound like a network issue though. Profiles are most likely stored on a server that it is for some reason unable to access when you try to login.

Possibly. But 1) I can normally log onto this computer even when it has no internet connection at all (it's a laptop); it'll load the local profile in that case. 2) This error happens randomly whether I'm plugged into the network or not. 3) It's telling me it can't find a file on my C drive.

But most importantly, the error message tells me nothing about what's actually wrong or how to fix it. Search for that error message and you get all kinds of lengthy, ridiculous methods to fix this, often by booting into Safe Mode and creating secondary admin accounts or hacking the Registry. Look at this insanity. But the problem fixes itself randomly if I log off and on a few times.

The proper thing to do would be whenever the network is crapped out and a file it can't find it missing, don't log me on halfway; don't log me on at all. And give me a proper error message.

You might want to check, if the file exists :)

What annoyes me most are the lagging windows etc. I have an AMD quadcore, two ATI HD4770, 8GB, 64GB SSD and the Windows 7 x64 I keep on one partition still lags compared to my awesome WM on Linux. Windows doesn't even have a real command line anymore and still cannot proper handle the windows on the desktop...

Network sucks as well... and I hate assistants and wizards grrr aargggh

=) I love reading your anti-windows rants. I really really wish I could be bothered to spend the time setting up a linux distro, but either I'm truly ignorant of how easy it is, or it's more difficult than I'd care to spend time for (it's a legitimate, terrible reason why I don't use linux)

That said, I found that message to be truly cryptic. GG windows
