When good hardware goes bad (2)

“Goes bad” meaning “breaks”. My beloved 22″ monitor has died on me. I’ve gone from 1920×1200 pixels of widescreen goodness to an old 1024×768 CRT that they were going to throw in the trash at work.
The good thing is that now I can see for sure whether all of my web sites look […]

Pain (3)

Tags:

My computer sounds like it’s dying. Or at least in severe pain. I’ve narrowed down the sound to the CPU fan, which obviously isn’t a good thing. Every once in a while it starts grinding. It actually sounds like it’s screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo” at five-second intervals. It’s very disturbing and it […]

Expert hardware reviews: worthless? (6)

Today I got this Westinghouse L2410NM monitor delivered by UPS. It’s insanely nice. 1920×1200 resolution, 24 inches. It was only $400 from newegg, or $350 if you mail away your soul for a rebate.
On one hand, the internet is invaluable when buying something. I can’t imagine what people did in the […]

New laptop (0)

I got a laptop the other day. I looked around a lot and decided just to get a Dell in the end, because I didn’t know where else to turn. You can’t really build your own laptop, sadly, so you have to go with someone. I have a lot of anecdotal evidence […]

MP3 players (5)

I’m still in the market for an MP3 player. At the time I got my 4 GB Muvo^2 it was way more than I needed. Now amazingly I have 12 GB of music on my hard drive. So I have to pick and choose what I take out with me, which sucks. […]

Fullscreen games under TwinView (0)

The only thing bad about having two monitors in Linux is fullscreen apps, from time to time. Mplayer for example is smart, it fullscreens to whatever screen it’s on and leaves the other alone. VLC for example bugs out but at least it sticks to one monitor while doing so.
NWN is not […]

Saitek Eclipse II (0)

I just got my new keyboard from newegg. A day early, as usual. Can’t beat newegg. My keyboard is a Saitek Eclipse II, and I highly recommend it. The keys are just the right firmness and as a bonus, this keyboard makes no noise whatsoever when you type. The space bar is […]
